On April 12, 2019, President Trump’s discriminatory policy banning transgender people from serving in the military, the Military Trans Ban, was implemented across the Armed Forces. This Executive Order disqualified new military recruits with a history or diagnosis of gender dysphoria and barred those in uniform from transitioning while serving.
This hateful order has since been revoked by President Biden but has yet to be codified into law to avoid future presidents from using Executive Orders to implement similar bans. The fight for open and authentic service for all trans people has a long road ahead and we’ll need everyone in this fight. Trans(cending) Hate: The Fight Ahead will feature transgender service members, veterans, and activists involved in the fight for open trans service and will shed light on current legislative efforts to codify trans service into law and how supporters can join the fight.
